Small Business Marketing: 4 Major Reasons to Use Viral Marketing

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

Viral Marketing is one technique in small business marketing that gets the word out about your business or website. It involves getting other people to willingly spread the message about your product or service. It is people telling people about what you do, or what you have done, and results in spreading such message like a virus – thus the word “viral” marketing.

You might think that viral marketing is for big companies with big budgets and that it cannot work for small businesses with small budgets. The truth is: big companies do have the budget to pay for highly polished ads and small businesses that have small budget can very well use viral marketing for their campaign because it has little or no cost.

There are 4 major reasons to use this interesting technique. As with other campaigns, you simply have to know how to effectively use this to build your business and attract potential customers.

1.) It is a fast and effective way to talk about your business.

Once the word starts to spread, there is no limit as to how many people can hear or read about your business. Because the message often comes to people from someone who they already know, it has more credibility than when the message comes up uninvited in an email from someone they do not know.

As soon as the message starts to spread, it picks up size and speed as it goes – like a snowball rolling down a hill. You might think that your efforts were not effective, but when people notice how good your business is, they can spread the word for you. When it works, it can work really well.

2.) It can be inexpensive.

Viral technique is actually more applicable for small business marketing because it does not require payment to people who spread the word. People do it out of mere satisfaction and recommendation. The only major cost you will incur is paying for all the additional orders or sales. More than likely, the biggest expense will be the upfront set up or production costs.

3.) It can help shield you from negative comments

Unfortunately, a negative message can go viral too as you cannot please everybody. However, it can be stopped and can be controlled. What you need to do is to really be open and responsive to the customers’ need. Meaning, if there is a negative message, you can always counter it. Have enough buffers in place so that the negative messages do not overpower the positive ones. Once you start a positive impression with customers, the negative comments or feedback can be overpowered. When you learn how to give good customer service, those negative comments will not be given much attention as the positive ones.

4.) It can find hidden customers.

Despite the time and money you spend trying to define your customers – figuring out who they are, and more importantly, where they are, there will always be people who you can miss. Once your message goes viral, there is no telling where it will end up, or who will respond to what you are offering. Because of the widespread words about your business, people that you have not even considered to be your customers can become your potential customers.

As words about what you offer continues to spread through this small business marketing technique, you do not have to worry about finding customers. People will just be the one to search and find you.

Effective Business Communication

Monday, March 28th, 2011

business communication involves constant exchange of information. It is a continuous process. The more the business expands, the greater is the pressure on the business to find more effective means of communication – both with the employees and with the world outside. Thus, business and communication goes hand in hand. Without effective business communication, a manager cannot perform the basic functions of management efficiently. It is the life-blood of an organization.

For a good communication in business, we should ensure the following:

Every communication in business, whether written or oral, should be logically structured , i.e.,it should have a good beginning, a good body(content), and an effective ending. Be it a business letter or business speech, the communication should begin in such a manner that the audience have keen interest and pays attention to the message. The content of the communication should gives the core message of communication. The communication should end in such a manner that the audience knows what is expected of them and they get the jist of the message.
Correct means of communication should be used- a means which take into reference time and cost constraints. Choice of appropriate channel also depends upon the amount of formality required and the speed of feedback required.
Communication should be articulate and concise. Use of ambiguous words should be avoided. Choice of words should be such that it overcomes cultural differences.
Business communication should be influencing and persuasive.
Communication should be courteous. Polite and considerate behavior is essence of business communication.
A positive body language should be used . For example, during meetings and interviews, maintain a frequent eye contact, give a pleasing smile , make all feel comfortable, etc.
Feedback is an integral component of communication. Without feedback, it will be impossible to know whether the receiver has understood the message in same terms as intended.
Try using more of ”You” rather than “I”. The audience or the receivers of the message should be given importance.
Be an active listener . The quality of communication improves if one is a good listener. One should listen positively, should be open-minded and attentive.
The facts should not be partial, i.e., they should be complete. The receiver of the message might get confused or might take a wrong action if facts are incomplete.
The facts should be recent and not outdated.

Besides these essentials of the communication process one should also take care of overcoming the barriers which can affect the communication process. Author is the writer of management study guide which explains in detail about the barriers in communication process.

How to Launch a New Business with Articles

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Starting a new business requires a marketing plan. You must decide how you will advertise your site before you launch a new business. This article shows you how to launch a new business with articles to build sales and revenue from the get-go.

Use Articles to Promote Your Site
There’s only so much that word-of-mouth advertising can do for a new business. Tell everyone you know about the business and share the link to your website with every business acquaintance and new person you meet. Talk about your new business till you’re blue in the face. That will only go so far to help you build your business, though.

A better and more effective method is to use articles to promote your site. Don’t confuse article marketing with providing quality content for your site, though. Sure, your site needs content. One way to stay on top of the search engine results pages and to get a higher ranking is to provide well researched, informative articles on your website. Providing content on your site grows your business based on people finding you in the search engines.

To reach a larger audience, however, article marketing is the way to go. Basically what you do is write an article that is directly related to your site. You won’t post it on your own site, though. Submit this article to an article distribution site. Once the article makes it through the editing process, it becomes available for websites across the net to pick up and use as content on their sites.

The benefit of distributing your article across the Internet is huge for you as a business owner. It creates a ton of back links to your site. These back links do two things. They send targeted traffic to your site and they improve your search engine ranking. This is good news and a lot of exposure for someone who is launching a new business.

Using Article Marketing to Launch a New Business
Article marketing is a great way to launch a new business. Draw a large number of readers and customers to your web page right from the beginning using these simple steps.

Step 1. Create a website for your new business. Make sure your website is aesthetically pleasing and it is filled with informative content to draw new readers in.

Step 2. Write (or hire someone to write) a search engine optimized article based on the topic of your new business.

Step 3. Submit your informative article to an article distribution service. Pair your article with an effective title that draws people in. Build in a little teaser to lure readers to click on your article. Your business’ web page link appears in the author box.

Step 4. Continue to add content to your website and submit articles through article distribution sites to promote your site and have a successful launch for your new business.

Now you know how to market with articles. Article marketing is a simple and effective way to get word out about your new business. It’s easy once you understand what publishers are looking for and you can tailor your articles to their needs.
