Branding Your Business

Friday, April 29th, 2011

There are elements of branding that can be expanded upon at all levels of business management, from simple things like designing a logo and printing it on your shopping bags if you are a retail store, to establishing a sophisticated online presence to dialogue with consumers.

There is one thing that all of the most successful businesses have in common (well, actually, there are a few billion things a lot of them have in common, but that’s another story…) and that thing is that they are all recognisable brands. They’re recognisable in part because they have been so successful and widely used that we’ve become familiar with them, but it is also largely due to clever branding and marketing on their part. Think of Google, Apple, Microsoft and Virgin, just to name a few. Not only are these names we’re all familiar with, they are companies that, if asked, we could describe facts about their ‘personality’. The fact is, the majority of the population knows very little about what goes on inside their boardrooms, but we still make assumptions (mostly fed to us by the companies themselves) about the ‘feel’ of the brand.

For example, we think of Google as powerful, creative, trendy and a little bit cheeky. We think of Apple as creative, innovative, cutting-edge in terms of technology and very hot in terms of popular culture. With companies like Microsoft and Virgin we are more likely to identify the brand with its founder, because they have received so much press–Microsoft is seen as powerful, intelligent, wealthy and sophisticated like its owner, Bill Gates, whereas Virgin is seen as fun, fresh, cheeky and a little quirky. These are all very successful examples of how branding has been used to cultivate a relationship with the public, therefore improving trust and familiarity as well as a position in the front of people’s minds. There are elements of branding that can be expanded upon at all levels of business management, from simple things like designing a logo and printing it on your shopping bags if you are a retail store, to establishing a sophisticated online presence to dialogue with consumers.

Branding can take hundreds of different forms, but the best way to approach it is to think of your business as a separate entity with a personality of its own. The first step is to establish what kind of personality your business has, based on your industry, your strategies and your target market. A big part of branding is often evaluating where you’d like your target market to be, and striving towards cultivating that kind of image. Branding is primarily about relationship management with the consumer, so things like exposure (things like custom packaging that will have customers remembering you), reputation management (dealing professionally and swiftly with consumer complaints so that you build a trustworthy reputation) and market analysis and response (identifying growth areas or things you could improve upon and acting on this intel) all contribute to building your business’s brand, and with it, your success.

What is the Best Business Card Scanner? See This Answer

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

It is a common question across various professional fields that need to store data from printed receipts and cards – what is the best business card scanner? The answer is actually a simple one – the best is one that is capable of producing very high quality scanned images and is also equipped with a good OCR software.

The best scanners in the market have a high dpi (some have even 600 dpi) and they will reproduce a very sharp scanned image of the business card or any other document. As for what is the best card scanner supposed to be like, it is either going to be portable (for laptop warriors) or they are going to be bigger desktop scanners with special features to scan varying sizes of cards, receipts and documents.

When you are in the market for a good business card scanner, the ideal thing to do is to go to online stores and compare the models according to your own needs. Instead of just pondering on what is the best business card scanner, go into the details of the packages and offers. See what suits you best according to size, portability, quality and of course budget.

Some of these scanners are large multipurpose machines; others come in ridiculously small sizes for portability. Business card scanners come in packages with software so they start archiving your data out of the box. The accuracy of these systems usually depends on the software you are using them with and most have their own software and work seamlessly with it.

ACN MLM Business – Opportunity Or Scam?

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

ACN, Inc, is a network marketing company that provides consumers low cost telephone service, internet, wireless service, as well as digital and video phones. They have built themselves into a well-known MLM company, and claim to be the worlds largest direct seller of communication products.

ACN has also gained much attention for their income opportunity, and there are some very real concerns about starting or participating in an ACN business. In this article, we will go through and give an unbiased review of the pros and cons of doing an ACN business, and see if ACN is a great business opportunity…or a great scam.

1. ACN – The Good

ACN was founded in 1993 by Greg Provenzano, Robert Stevanovski, Mike Cupisz, and tony Cupisz. They operate in 19 countries and have over 1,000 employees worldwide. The company itself has a pretty simple product line – low-cost telecommunication service, internet service (DSL, broadband, and dial-up) and other basic wireless services. They have experienced double-digit growth for the past few years, and claim to reap $500m in revenue annually. One of the more notable achieve of ACN is that they have gotten Donald Trump to publicly endorse them as a great business opportunity. So far, so good.

2. ACN – The Bad

Whether or not ACN is a good business opportunity, it is clear that Mr. Trump has no intention of starting an ACN business. Additionally, making RVP or SVP (the top positions in ACN) take considerably more work than finding 3 people…who find 3 people…who find 3 people…etc. etc.

The theory of growing an ACN business is that the representative will simply find a few people who are already using telecom service, and switch over to ACN because of the income opportunity. The picture is painted that the distributor can be paid off everyone in their neighborhood who has a telephone…which is most everyone. The problem comes with a marketing concept called positioning.

3. ACN – The Ugly

ACN, like many other MLM’s, teach their distributors to leverage their “warm market”, friends and family. However, when a new distributor comes talking to their friends and family about making a tremendous income with a business opportunity…and the distributor is not making any money…there is a credibility issue that occurs, and the distributor is positioned as a gopher for someone else’s business.

Growing an ACN business can be a great opportunity. They appear to have a good service, but there are plenty of companies that have great products, and many people that market great products never make a dime. There are also plenty of terrible products that generate millions of dollars in revenue (anyone remember the pet rock?) The difference is the marketer, and their ability to target their market effectively.

In closing, I would say that starting and developing an ACN business is lucrative if you know how to effectively use the telephone, the Internet, and other effective marketing tools. It is not a scam, but like any business, success will be determined by the skill-set of the marketer. ACN is definitely not a lottery ticket or a stock option – meaning, you do not just buy in and wait for a payout.

If someone does not have the first clue on how to market effectively, then I would suggest they either learn how to be an effective marketer, or else just use ACN as a way to save a few bucks on your phone bill.

A Marketing System – Every Successful Business Must Have One

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

The definition of Marketing is the total of activities involved in the transfer of goods from the producer or seller to the consumer or buyer, including advertising, shipping, storing, and selling. This includes everything from how your phone is answered to your voicemail to how your employees are dressed to how your business cards look to how your offices are decorated. Everything speaks in marketing.

Most people jump into their business and start running full steam ahead without a strategy or a plan for how to market their service or product. This is like going into battle and saying ‘Ready’, ‘Fire’… ‘Aim’. The steps are out of order. You get ready and aim at your target. Once its in your sights, you fire. The same order of things occurs when developing a marketing plan.

Your Marketing system should include goals, activities, and specific strategies for how to accomplish the above mentioned tasks. Some research into what the market wants is imperative. Remember we’re living in a microwave society. People want things quick, fast, and in a hurry, with the least amount of inconvenience to them. So one of the questions you have to ask yourself is what is the quickest, safest, most cost effective way to get your product to the purchaser? Can it be delivered electronically? Does it need to be sent by a mail carrier? How will the costs of these avenues be figured in?

Traditional marketing tries to appeal to the masses, but it would be better to locate your niche, or those who are specifically interested in what you’re offering, and appeal to them. That way your percentage of conversions will be greater and you won’t waste time and money on people who are not at all interested in what you’re offering. You want to spend your marketing energy on clients who want what you have.

Your system should initially include a Social Marketing strategy which incorporates sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube and a Content Marketing strategy like articles, videos, or press releases. You can also include a paid Marketing strategy like PPC or banner advertising, if you have a bit of a budget to work with. To start out, you should pick one strategy and master it. Once you’ve gotten that one mastered, add another. You don’t want to spread yourself too thin from a time and a money standpoint. You want to do what works.

Once you’ve selected these, specify the exact tasks that need to be done daily in order to achieve the goals. For example, on Facebook, you should find and join groups of individuals that are interested in your products or services. Connect with people who are going in the same direction as you. Provide value to these groups and individuals. Don’t just pitch your business. That is a huge turn off.

Be mindful of your time management. If you’re not careful you could find yourself spending hours doing tasks that are not directly connected to the goals you’ve set. Scheduling of your time is a key element. Prioritize the money-making tasks. Of course, supporting tasks must be done. But be mindful of the time you give to them. Some things are good to do, but they don’t add value and thus don’t make you any money.

If You’re Trying to Market Your MLM Business without a Marketing System, You’re Just Wasting Time and Money. A simple, step-by-step Marketing System could mean the difference between success and failure. So this must be one of your first steps in the process as it’s basically your roadmap. Check out the Internet Marketing site and feel free to contact me if you need some help developing your own Marketing system.

Home Business Models

Who should I listen to when I am starting my home business? The best voice is your gut instinct. The gut instinct has been extensively analyzed but the results have not been satisfactory. Instead we have egotistical so called business men that attempt to justify their arrogance using gut instinct. In some ways this is a concept that has not place in modern business. It relies on fallible emotions and unquantifiable influences. That can be very worrying if the business decision is going to involve the movement of billions of dollars. That is why it is never advisable to listen to business models that are constructed by someone else.

Mr. Donald Trump can be very irritating. He has recently indicated that he could run for the office of President in the USA. Of course all that would do is to ensure that Sarah Palin or any Republican candidate loses. However the substantive point is that he has gut instinct. He knows that there is an opportunity to make money and will take it. A few months back there was a controversy with that failed beauty queen called Carrie Prejean. Apparently she expressed some homophobic sentiments. The political left came back at her and Mr. Trump valiantly defended her.

The cynics might argue that this is a ploy to keep conservatives on the Trump Empire. People with conservative leanings can sway the market if they put their money where their mouths are. Mr. Trump is an expert at self publicity and the ability to read the market. However not many people can get away with the things that he can get away with. If you decided to behave like him with your home business, then you will be called all the names under the sun. You will also probably go bankrupt.

Looking at that example it is quite clear that gut instinct is innate. You either have it or you don’t. That is why Mr. Trump was able to rebuild an empire from scratch. The business models that work for Bill Gates might never work for your business. You cannot afford to be experimental when you have poured your life savings into a business. That means that you will replace gut instinct with simple business models that do not open up unmitigated risks for you. Gut instinct is good to read about in business schools but is not really appropriate for your home business.

When it comes to starting your own small business in Canada, you might thrilled with the possibilities but at the same time at a loss as to how to start. Starting a business in Canada is not really difficult. There are some key ingredients that are essential and following the provincial and federal laws. In some cases, municipal government may require that you get a license if you operate your business in their municipality, but this is not a general requirement. However, first and foremost, you must have Canadian presence, or a business address in Canada, in order to qualify. If you do not live in Canada, this does not have to present a problem, as we will discuss in this article.

Another fundamental ingredient you will need to start a small business in Canada is to have some sort of idea for the foundation of your business plan. What do you want to market? What do you want to bring into the world? Is your business going to be local or national? How will you market your product or service? What are your expenses and when do you anticipate making a profit? Those are just a few of the important questions you must answer. Local banks and libraries can help you with getting the info you need to put together a strong business plan. Be prepared to modify and enhance your plan as you involve investors, lenders, and/or partners. Then be prepared to further modify it as you begin to run your business and see what works and what doesn’t.

Once you establish what services and/or products you will be offering, next step is to decide on a business name and register the business legally. In Canada, the process is very simple. The easiest way to register a new business is as a sole proprietor. However, as mentioned, you will need to establish citizenship or a Canadian address. If you reside outside of Canada, you might consider partnership with a Canadian living in Canada and use their address. Each province has their own business registrar office. You can find a list of address and websites at the Industry Canada website where you can register your business online.

If you are not terribly wealthy, as few starters of small businesses are, you will need to seek financial help. In Canada, most banks will offer financial services and help you get a loan. However, it can be very difficult to get a loan, especially if you do not have a perfect credit history or don’t have any credit history in Canada at all if you are not a Canadian citizen. What you need to do is assure the bank that you are prepared. This is where having a plan comes in. You have to know what you are going to do with the money, and you have to have a plan to pay it back. If you don’t live in Canada but have a partner in Canada, he or she can co-sign the loan. By giving the loaner the confidence that you can put the money to good use and make the investment worth their time, you will be able to secure the loan. Banks or family are not the only solutions for financial backing. Government of Canada offers loans and grants to new businesses to stimulate growth. Industry Canada website has up-to-date information on available loans, grants and financing. Internet advertising can be very cheap and effective, if you advertise in the right place. Many services can help you find the advertising you need to kick off your small business. How to Find a New Business Agency

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

It is important to keep a good stream of customers and clients. It is very easy to get complacent when you have enough clients – but if one of those clients disappeared would your business feel the effect? Or worse would it crumble?? Working with a New Business Agency can help you win clients and grow your business. There is no denying that new business / lead generation can be time consuming, hard work and expensive but overall it can be worthwhile and cost effective.

Many Creative and Marketing Agencies work with New Business Agencies; it is an effective way to get your work in front of companies you want to work with. I wrote this article after to speaking to the Directors of Creative Agencies and other Business Development Managers. This article is for small Creative and Marketing Agencies new to new business and looking to work with a New Business Agency for the first time.

I think it fair to say in the world of new business you do get what you pay for. You can get a telesales person to call thousands of companies and pay a minimal fee, or you can choose an agency that approach new business intelligently. The second will be costly but can you afford not to?

New Business Agencies specialise in finding you clients in order to grow your business. Although agencies work in different ways, the long and short of it is that, they will phone companies on your behalf with the view of setting up a meeting between you and the potential client. Sounds simple enough, but the new business process is more than simply cold calling.

Before you jump in at the deep end there are a few factors to bear in mind when choosing a New Business Agency. They are all different and will all have diverse ideas about the way new business should be conducted. Here are a few questions to ask your new business agency before you work with them?

Question 1 -Results or Numbers?

If a New Business Agency promises to target 500 companies a week and guarantees you five meetings, be aware. This can be a potential time waster for some agencies. If a New Business Manager is pressured to get you in front of x amount of clients, they will. Whether the meeting is worthwhile or not, is not their problem they just have to reach their targets.

If the person handling your new business account is a really good sales person with a hard sales technique they may be able to force a potential client to have a meeting with you whether they have work, or you are suitable. These are good sales people, but they may not be producing qualified leads.

For example, if you are a design agency who specialises in content managed websites for small businesses, you do not want to end up at a meeting to rebrand Kellogs. Yes, this would be a fantastic opportunity, but in competition with top branding agencies do you stand a chance? If you only work for big brands similarly you may not want to show up to a meeting to discuss a

Approaching New Business Strategies

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

Many people talk about business strategies but have a great failure to realise precisely what this is – is it surprising that a fair deal of businessmen have a giant problem discussing this when they do not exactly know what this is!

Questions that should get asked may include the resolution of the undoubted fact that’s there even a strategy in existence or if this is the case is this the right one? Additionally, how can we work out what a technique is and how does one go about developing one? It’s extremely crucial when developing strategy to take a quick look at some of the issues and why a selected trail can go wrong-if one keeps doing a corresponding thing, one will get the same result. Most way of research are above 35 years old but there is a total absence of appreciation of them among businessmen and lots of them do not understand the simplest way to utilize them. So how can we correct this anomaly? Initially, the ground rules must be set so participators need to arrive with open, clear minds.

Method might be matched against seeing everything around, from each angle available and even into the future and the following necessities must be met to be successful: Buyers are ultimate and form the roots of market understanding, practicability must take preference over concept, the business wants of now and the future need to be thought about and the method should be quantifiable. It is worth at roughly that point to touch on the philosophy behind a method. The best spot to start is to take the old saying of begin with where you’d like to be and work backwards to where you are now.

Top Five web business Systems to achieve success in Web Based Opportunities:

• Paid Surveys – there’s basically a massive list of valid firms that help home-based roles through paid surveys and poser shopping. A number of these internet sites are hypes and some scams, these corporations might bombard you with offers and guarantees with loads of undesired advertising. Nevertheless Maximum Paid Surveys is among the most authoritative web site which hosts a catalogue of legitimized paid surveys company, puzzle shopping and focus groups on the web. A notable aspect about the paid surveys is that it’s a really nominal one- time investment and you can start with your web based small business with no experience and precise skill base. It can supply you the first fiscal success until you are sufficiently mature to put your hands in other more concerned marketing systems.

• Internet marketing – According to Wikipedia, affiliate marketing is a Net based selling practice in which a business rewards a few business partners or associates for each visitor or client created by the affiliate’s promoting efforts.

• Own an internet site – To run a successful web based small business you have to have an internet site, identify a smart idea or product that sells and is comparatively straightforward to market. Knowing the way to build or change a webpage is also a critical ability, or you will probably finish up spending substantial amount of cash in hiring a talented person who has to maintain and make easy changes to your website for you.

• Niche Promoting – the prime ingredient of Niche advertising strategy is the dedication and focus of the efforts towards a tiny niche segment of a market rather than the whole world.Usually this tiny fragment of the market is overlooked or ignored by large firms and the less competition makes it valuable to explore it for profits. The idea is to target a targeted sector, concentrated area – geographically or demographically.

• Multi-level-marketing – ( MLM ) is also called internet promotion, direct selling, referral promoting or pyramid selling. Lots of the Net firms use it by describing a selling structure by building a structure of affiliates for their general promoting system.
